The Admission Point Score (APS) is used by Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) to assess National Senior Certificate results for university admission. It's calculated by summing points from your 6 best subjects (excluding Life Orientation).
The calculator uses the standard CPUT APS conversion:
Where points are awarded based on percentage bands:
Note: Life Orientation is excluded from the calculation, even if it's one of your highest marks.
Details: Your APS determines eligibility for specific programs at CPUT. Different programs have different minimum APS requirements, and some competitive programs may require higher APS scores.
Tips: Enter percentages for at least 6 subjects (excluding Life Orientation). You can optionally include Life Orientation if you want to confirm it won't be counted. All percentages must be between 0-100.
Q1: Why is Life Orientation excluded?
A: CPUT follows national guidelines that exclude Life Orientation from APS calculations as it's considered a life skills subject rather than academic.
Q2: What's a good APS score?
A: This depends on the program. Minimum APS requirements range from 18-28 points, with competitive programs requiring higher scores.
Q3: How many subjects are considered?
A: Only your top 6 subjects (excluding Life Orientation) are used in the calculation.
Q4: What if I have more than 6 subjects?
A: The calculator will automatically select your 6 highest-scoring subjects (excluding Life Orientation).
Q5: Does CPUT use different APS calculations for different programs?
A: Some programs may have additional requirements (like specific subject requirements), but the basic APS calculation remains the same.
